Re-owning your Skin

The nearly constant use of social media increases the amount of attention regarding one’s aesthetic appearance. Along with this comes a very comparing and self critical view of the outward appearances especially among young people.

The project “Re-Owning your Skin” addresses this problem with a series of garments. Through the use of optical illusions these pieces of fashion instantly confront the wearer and viewers with skin impurities, unwanted body hair or stretch marks and show that there is no “ideal” or “normal”.

By confronting oneself and one’s surroundings with individual insecurities a process of acceptance and familiarisation is started.
