The New Commons is a monument commemorating a speculative post-capitalist future where AI has rendered current work structures obsolete. The monuments’ materiality of fertile soil contrived from decomposed office materials, is representative of both the celebratory overcoming of these capitalistic structures and the formation of a new way of living.
Its horizontal structure which gently disrupts the familiar landscape of Oskar-Kokoschka-Platz communicates this non hierarchical future by inviting visitors to remove their shoes and walk across its surface grounding and slowing down one’s experience of this festival.
This monument breaks down what once held systematic meaning to cultivate space for growth and a hopeful future.
