The user interfaces between humans and machines play a crucial role in the perception of artificial intelligence – the next socio-technological frontier. Looking at current interfaces implemented by big tech, show tendencies of mystification and disguise. Everything just “works like magic.” This top-down approach leads to technological skepticism and distrust. These interfaces are referred to as “Dishonest Interfaces.” By introducing an alternative writing mode – a collaborative loop, which is based on the fundamental workings of Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs) – the project aims to emphasizes mutual understanding and promote “honest” interaction possibilities with AI. Developed from the three isolated mechanisms “Dataset,” “Emphasis,” and “Probability,” this method places humans within the generative process. The “Large Language Writer” is the prototype that encapsulates this new process of writing and therefore makes it „test-able“. The writing device consists of a custom keyboard, an e-ink display and a camera. It is carried by a modular voxel-body.
