The project “Danube Expedition” began with simple designs like a paper-mâché boat and a bicycle-boat hybrid, culminating in a practical and affordable raff. Made from salvaged and repurposed materials, to create an accessible, and ingenious watercraft.
From experimenting with PVC air pillows to large scale barrel models, the project was guided by a thinking-through-making approach. Finally, the successful launch of the full-size raft on the Danube River was quite the spectacle. Participants experienced its performance firsthand, enjoying the possibility of a different river adventure.
Community participation and iterative design were crucial throughout this process, highlighted by feedback loops. The project’s documentation on their blog leans into their experimental approach. Ultimately, they created a raft that not only operates effectively but also offers an unexpected way for people to engage with the Danube.
