‘Places for Period’ is a co-design project led by Eszter Noémi Zwickl and created together with people who menstruate from Budapest, Hungary. ‘Közvécé a Közért’ is an interactive event organised by the ‘Places for Period’ co-design team. The event presents a new and positive perspective on the usually unpopular, yet indispensable and useful public toilets.
The event aims to start a dialogue with the inhabitants of the 8th district of Budapest (Józsefváros) about the importance of public toilets and their cleanliness, menstrual poverty, and the relationship between these three issues. It also provided a space for district residents to express their views on the issues mentioned above.
On 11 May 2025, between 10:00 and 16:00, five different locations at Kálvária tér showed the theme of public toilets and menstruation through games, crafts, theatre debates, discussions, and an exhibition. ‘Közvécé a Közért’ was organised in collaboration with the Józsefváros Municipality and its Participation Office, OFF-Biennale Budapest, AZTABANDA, and several NGOs.
