Sottobosco is a cooperative card game offering a prefigurative experience of navigating through a disjointed time. Such a time is defined by the absence of a voice capable of narrating a stable world. After the collapse of Reality – understood as a constructed framework rather than the totality of what exists – players face an ocean of meaninglessness.
The understanding of the signs surrounding them is partially lost, resulting in a feeling of disorientation. The players’ goal is to create a new reality system, to weave a new story of our world, and to reestablish a cosmos within chaos. This new order emerges out of the cultural fragments of a previous civilization as a monstrosity.
Within the darkness lurks the chaos, which threatens to challenge players’ resilience. Along this path, players are encouraged to form and nurture relationships with others – connections that may pose short-term risks but promise improved resilience in the long run.
