Due to the ongoing pandemic the Angewandte is adapting the procedures for applications.
The digital registration and portfolio upload for the Design Investigations department will be from 12th – 28th (12.00 am)January 2022 via the central registration tool of the University of Applied Arts Vienna. https://application.uni-ak.ac.at
The entrance exam is made up of your proposal, design-related tasks (s. Admission Details below) as well as a series of interviews. The exam takes place between 23rd to 25th February 2022.
ADMISSION
Your Proposal
We want you to design a robot companion and upload your idea as part of your portfolio. Your proposal should be an interesting interpretation of this topic and look at the human-machine relationship. We can’t wait to see your ideas!
Portfolio Submission
We evaluate students based on their portfolio. You can submit your digital portfolio 12th – 28th (12.00 am)January 2022 via the central registration tool of the University of Applied Arts Vienna. It’s important to make a design-specific portfolio that represents you, your skills, interests and experience, and the way you think and work.

Entrance ExamÂ
Following your portfolio submission, from 23rd to 25th February 2022 between 10:00-18:00, candidates will work on a number of design-related tasks. These may include modelling a “natural” object, ideation skills in small teams and a quick design task of an everyday object (hardware and/or software). Additionally, interviews will be conducted to determine your motivation and educational background, cultural and conceptual talents as well as communication skills. Then we’ll select our future students.
Fast Track Option
If you have already done a bachelor’s degree, or completed some years of study elsewhere, and would like to move to Design Investigations, we also have a fast track option. This means that based on the evaluation of your portfolio, we can move you directly to a higher semester, and you may not need to do all 10 semesters of study.
Fees
Between EUR 20 – 750 per semester. The Fees structure varies depending on your nationality.
It’s easy to apply
You’ll need Matura (A), Abitur (D), A-level (UK) or equivalent.
We teach in English and welcome students from all over the world.
You’ll need to know German or learn the language in the first year as other courses are taught in German. If you need help, the University provides language courses.
